Spotted green alkanet (Pentaglottis sempervirens) is a hardy, deep-rooted perennial often considered a weed in UK gardens. It has rough, hairy leaves and bright blue flowers similar to forget-me-nots. While attractive to pollinators, it spreads aggressively through both self-seeding and resilient roots, making it difficult to control once established. It thrives in shady or semi-shady areas and can quickly outcompete other plants, especially in borders and untended spaces. Removal typically requires digging out the entire root system, as it regrows easily from root fragments.
